Creative Ways to Procrastinate AND Prep for NaNoWriMo (1 of 7)

Today we're considering ways you can procrastinate yet, be productive—and get some work done towards your novel.

NaNoWriMo is right around the corner. And, and if you are planning to participate, you know, because it's the end of October and November 1st, which is conveniently and wonderfully on a Monday, is right around the corner.

In preparation I sat back and thought about the ways that we procrastinate as writers. And I created a list of seven ways that we can procrastinate and still help our writing.

The first one is going to be an easy one.

And it’s reading.

I love to read. And if you’re like me we read to procrastinate, but we can use this to help us prepare for writing our novels.

How?

Well, the first thing you can do is begin reading in your genre and not just the books you normally read. Start by finding some new-to-you. You can also find some new sub-genres that you don't usually go towards.

Lately I’ve been reading dark romance and reverse harem thanks to client projects.

What about you? What are you reading?

Do you read to help yourself become a better writer?

And I'm referencing non-fiction craft books, I'm talking about books that will bring you up to date in your genre. Some OGs. Some blazing the charts. So that you get an understanding of the market and can take it into your writing cave.

Comment

Do you read how many books have you read this year and, and, and in your genre? And if you really feel generous, tell us one thing that you've learned, whether, as a pro or a con, from one of your fellow writers.

Let’s chat in the comments.
