Creative Ways to Procrastinate AND Prep for NaNoWriMo (2 of 7)

I’m back continuing 7 Creative Ways to Productively Procrastinate—a NaNoWriMo prep series.

Today I’m sharing the second way you can productively procrastinate and still make progress on prepping for your novel.

These are not in any particular order. But the second tip is a book cover.

Now, listen, I am not one of these people that have a million book covers stored on my computer. However, if you're one, put it in the comments.

I also have a book cover before I start my novel. I find it inspirational. And I include the cover in my planner or on my computer monitor or as a part of my Scrivener file so that I have something in front of me.

I remember there were times when I would plot for authors that they would have a pre-made cover and they would just send me the pre-made cover. I would be able to help them to plot a story based on a cover, because that should tell you the type of story that you're telling.

Displaying the cover reminds me of what I'm working towards. Its a placeholder to keep you motivated and have a visual of your story.

To get started I suggest searching for different designers on Facebook that have private groups sharing pre-made covers. Another option is to use something like Canva. And it doesn't have to be your “real” cover to serve as a motivator. My final suggestion is to visit designer websites (I’ll share a few in below).

So that is officially our second way to productively procrastinate and prep for writing your novel. And that is to get a book cover.

Resources

Here are a few places to get started. We are no associated with these brands or groups. Search and purchase at your own risk. But I thought it would make your start a little easier. 🙂
